Basically I had to walk most of the day as running was clearly irritating something; but if you have to walk then a day mainly on towpath (The Ohio and Erie Canal towpath) in ok weather – max around 87 and some shade from the trees – is pretty good. It was nearly 13 hours but I enjoyed most of the day. John crewed and was again good company so it was a nice break to see him every few miles.
This evening we stayed at a guesthouse – Garver House – in Strasburg, OH. It is a lovely house and owners Alan and Natalie Cline are very welcoming, I’d really recommend it if you’re ever in the area. One of the highlights was a peach and blueberry pie that Natalie had baked – delicious! It was the best pie I’ve ever had; I’ve asked for her to email me the recipe! The following morning’s breakfast of French toast and ham set me up nicely too; and they even made up a packed lunch of peanut butter sandwiches and homemade chocolate chip cookies – much more than I’d expected. I slept really well and it was great to feel relaxed and at home after so many identical motel rooms.
