Stage 5: Guer to Georges De La Loire, 71km

This was one of the worst days running I’ve had in a long time – it was really humid and overcast for most of the day, only really breaking into some sunshine late on. From the start I wanted to go back to bed (though my bed at home – not a sleeping bag!). I’d had a terrible night’s sleep (the second on the trot) and was in no mood to run. So I slogged my way round the French countryside and made heavy work of an over 8 hours, 71km.

In the cumulative results I’ve dropped to 11th overall, with some people (Herve Bec in particular) having a very good couple of days.
